Big Kahuna Reef

Big Kahuna Reef takes a lot of cues from Bejeweled, but the game offers a surprising amount of challenge and depth throughout its 100 levels to keep you engaged. Though the basic gameplay merely involves swapping marine-themed icons to match three in a row and clear them, the varying shapes of the playing boards as you move from level to level give the game great challenge. You'll find certain pieces that are "locked," requiring you to clear them two or more times before you can fill the rest of the board and beat the level. As you beat the levels, you'll unlock new species of fish that you can release into the background. The game even includes an aquarium mode where you can just stare at fish swimming about. The game's backgrounds resemble a coral reef, and you can choose from a few different types for your fish to swim around in. There's even a multiplayer mode where you can plug in a second mouse for competitive or cooperative play. Marrying an aquarium simulation to a puzzle game isn't the most conventional idea, but Big Kahuna Reef proves that it works.

Big Kahuna Reef - Bound to Become a Classic

First of all - "Thank you goes out to the creators of Big Kahuna Reef for the screen saver it's so much better than my old virtual fish". Last year, I got a copy of the trial - but, I wasn't online. I couldn't find it in the stores. So, I slowly finished the game at 2 minute intervals at a time. Yes, I had other games that I had not finished. But, I wanted to play this game in particular. After I finished the game, I used the level editor to make new boards. You should definitely test out your levels to see if they are playable, after creating them before trying to submit them. The levels I created were harder than the game and I had to re-edit them. Unfortunately, my old computer was in the path of recent hurricanes. So, I will rebuild new levels after I finish the game. I am aware that I can download new levels online ...I know why there are so many levels. The people who really, really love the game feel honored to contribute some boards to the online community of "Big Kahuna Reef Lovers". Many times I put on my own music and turn off game sounds...but, I like this particular music.

I've just been on line a few months and I actually hunted this game down. Directly after buying the game, 3 days ago, I came over to the Reflexive Arcade site and registered as an arcade user before even playing the download. Last night, I played through to level 62 and expect to free all the fish for my screen saver in a few more days. It's all about the pretty fish, of course. I originally got it as a demo on either an disc for an internet provider or a Magazine disc. Reflexive Arcade has good taste and I know I will enjoy most of their games. I would like to offer this game on my website (which is brand new too) because it's impossible to hate this game.

Just like the PC version

Kudos to Reflexive for their new line of Mac Games. I downloaded Big Kahuna Reef on a Mac and found that all the great gameplay from the PC version was still there on the Mac.

Big Kahuna Reef is a classic match-em-up game. It has everything...traveling underwater, discovering exotic fish from around the world (with great educational info for every fish you unlock), seeing great art, backgrounds, enjoying the cool music and best of all, experiencing the quintessential Reflexive gameplay that has won them respect and loyalty (from me anyway). Cheers Reflexive and keep up the good work! Hope to see more great stuff like it in the future!
